President’s message
Dear UM6P Associates,
An estimated 6 million Moroccans live and work outside of Morocco. For decades, this talent network has been a crucial pillar in transforming Morocco’s demographic, social, and economic landscape, enhancing its global standing in both tangible and intangible ways—a unique manifestation of soft power.
The connections between Moroccans living abroad and their homeland are strong and deeply rooted. They have consistently responded to national needs without hesitation, whether it’s defending Morocco’s territorial integrity or, as seen during the recent pandemic, contributing their hard-earned resources to support fellow citizens.
Today, Morocco recognizes another invaluable asset among these global citizens: their human capital. Acknowledging the significance of this talent network to national development is a matter of strategic importance, expressed at the highest levels of leadership and public policy. In its latest report, Morocco’s Special Commission on the New Development Model (CSMD) recommends integrating Moroccans living abroad into all aspects of national development. This commitment to inclusion was emphasized in the August 20th, 2022, Royal Address, where His Majesty King Mohammed VI called on Moroccans abroad to contribute with their skills, expertise, and knowledge.
In alignment with this vision, The University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) has prioritized engaging with the global Moroccan talent pool since its founding. The UM6P Associates Program reflects this commitment, founded on the belief that the academic empowerment of Morocco and Africa can only be achieved with the participation of these skilled professionals, whether they are researchers, innovators, or industry leaders. For years, UM6P has worked to connect with brilliant Moroccan minds across major world capitals, shaping the future of science and technology. In partnership with the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME), UM6P has also incorporated diaspora experts into significant national discussions.
With the creation of the UM6P Associates platform, the University’s commitment to this global network takes another step forward. This platform is designed to be a thriving community that connects Moroccan professionals, academics, entrepreneurs, and students with the emerging knowledge economy in Morocco and Africa.
